Risk/Cost Factors as Cutoff Modifiers

This bubble represents your summing up of all of the possible cut-off modifiers to determine a final cut-off value which will be applied to the promise of the therapy to decide whether to use it.

This summing process is not some simple mathematical addition of numbers instead it represents a personal judgment about the combination of all of the cut-off modifiers. In this judgment, one factor may be overwhelming - for instance it might be just too expensive despite the evidence for it. Or a number of factors such as, low side effects, ease of use, and lack of interference with other therapies might add up to a willingness to use the therapy with only modest evidence that it would be helpful.
